A Historic Step Toward the American Dream

On July 10th, the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act became law, marking the most significant bipartisan housing reform in decades. ROAD stands for Renewing Opportunity in the American Dream, and that is what the law sets out to do: expand access to homeownership for more Americans.
At its core, the law takes on the housing supply shortage, giving communities more tools to build and cutting the red tape that slows construction. It also modernizes financing for manufactured housing, strengthens awareness of VA home loan benefits for servicemembers and veterans, and takes steps to improve access to credit.
The law is the product of leadership on both sides of the aisle. Credit goes to Senate Banking Chairman Tim Scott and Ranking Member Elizabeth Warren, House Financial Services Chairman French Hill and Ranking Member Maxine Waters, the many members of both parties who helped get it done, and an Administration that made it a priority.
Proof has been on a mission for the last decade to help expand homeownership, especially for first-time buyers. The ROAD to Housing Act is making that easier. Much of our efforts have centered on making it possible to close on a home from anywhere. A servicemember stationed overseas, a family relocating across the country, or a buyer with a demanding schedule should not need a plane ticket or a day off work to complete the purchase. Online notarization makes that possible, and it advances the same goal this law does: wider access to homeownership.
For millions of Americans, the American Dream is now a little more within reach.
