Proof and Superfluid: A Verified Human Behind Every Agent Transaction

Today Proof announces a partnership with Superfluid Finance in their launch of Superfluid Wallet, a wallet that a person and their AI agents use together. Proof provides the human identity layer of the wallet through verifiable credentials for both individuals and businesses.
Superfluid Wallet also implements x401, Proof's open protocol for identity challenges over HTTP. The human holds the keys and approves the actions proposed by the agent.
With Superfluid Wallet, an agent can prove there is a specific verified human behind the transaction, and the person can prove the merchant on the other side is who they claim to be. Trust in agentic commerce must run in both directions.
Why agent wallets need identity
The last twelve months produced consensus across the industry around the needs of agentic commerce infrastructure. Card networks, AI labs, cloud providers, and open-banking platforms all shipped agent payment infrastructure and protocols.
Each proposal solves the verification side, including what a valid agent transaction looks like, and how the receiving party checks the signature. However, they all deferred the issue of human identity. Who issues the credential that says a real, verified human delegated this authority in the first place? Google's own AP2 specification calls establishing those roots of trust "a critical area for innovation." Anthropic's MCP authorization spec puts the authorization server "beyond the scope of this specification."
That unanswered question is a common problem in high-consequence transactions: the person comes back later and says “I didn't authorize that”. A signed agent mandate does not settle that dispute if nothing in the record establishes the human who delegated the authority.
Proof exists for that moment. We verify identities to NIST IAL2, operate an audited public certificate authority, and bind a signature to the specific transaction it authorized. We have been doing this for the transactions that cannot go wrong for over a decade: $640B+ in real estate closings, retirement distributions and wire authorizations. Agent-initiated transactions require a similar solution.
What we are building with Superfluid
Superfluid Wallet's design choice is the one we would have argued for. Their Human-Factor Authentication model keeps the human as the owner of the wallet and the keys, with the agent proposing actions and the human approving under set policies. That is a wallet built for services acting on behalf of people.
Proof makes the human in that model provable, and we are working with the Superfluid team on two use cases:
Identifying the buyer. The agent carries a reusable credential rather than an anonymous session. A merchant or service provider can confirm there is a verified human behind the request, at the assurance level the transaction warrants, without repeating KYC that has already been done.
Verifying the merchant. The same challenge exists for merchants. Before an agent sends funds, it can require that the receiving party present a credential proving the organization is real and that the person or system acting for it holds authority to do so. Agents will be as good at impersonating merchants as they are at impersonating buyers.
Applications across the real economy
Proof is building in tokenized markets because the agentic economy requires the same infrastructure as the industries we operate in today, including insurance, wealth management, real estate, and lending. With the increasing adoption of AI agents among consumers and in the enterprise, a fraudulent retirement distribution initiated by an agent or a wire moved by a prompt-injected treasury agent become plausible scenarios. They are missing the answer to the same question - who authorized this transaction?
Agentic commerce in tokenized markets is where these transactions are happening first and fastest. Building the identity layer there, with the Superfluid team, is how we get it right before the stakes move to a $250,000 wire.
If you are building in the agentic space, we would like to hear from you.
