How UWM Completed 30,000+ Digital Closings with Proof

United Wholesale Mortgage (UWM) is the largest mortgage lender in the U.S. and an early adopter of digital closings. As borrower expectations shifted toward flexibility and remote convenience, UWM expanded its use of Proof to help brokers close loans faster and with less coordination. The result is a closing experience that is simpler, consistent, and easier to schedule for every participant.

“Proof makes it easier to serve our borrowers, especially when speed matters. It’s a seamless experience for brokers and clients alike.”

Modernize Closings Without Adding Friction

Borrowers today expect to be able to complete major financial transactions online, on their own schedule. Meanwhile, brokers need closing workflows that keep pace with those expectations while avoiding last-minute delays. The traditional in-person signing model made that difficult. Scheduling notaries, aligning time zones, and coordinating location logistics slowed transactions down. UWM had already used Proof’s remote online notarization platform for years. The question became how to make remote closings an easy, broker-driven option whenever it streamlined the process.

Let Brokers Choose Digital Closings Where They Add Value

Instead of mandating remote closings, UWM enabled brokers to use Proof where it solved a real workflow challenge - tight deadlines, travel conflicts, work-hour constraints, or multi-party signings. Training and support were built into existing processes, including UWM’s TRAC+ refinance workflow. Once brokers experienced the scheduling flexibility, usage naturally expanded into purchase and mixed-use transactions. In 2025, UWM brokers have completed more than 30,000 closings and refinancings on Proof. UWM has completed digital closings with signers in almost every state, giving brokers confidence that they can close loans smoothly no matter where parties are located. A key part of that scale is flexibility. UWM brokers and title partners use Proof’s In-House Notary (IHN) and On-Demand Notary (ODN) options in nearly equal measure. That means title companies can keep working with their own trusted notary teams when they choose to, or tap Proof’s Notarize Network when they need speed, coverage, or off-hours availability. No forced change, no disruption to existing relationships — just more ways to get the deal done. Wilner noted that this adoption model is what made growth possible. “Our brokers lead the way. When they see something that makes closings easier, they run with it.”

Faster Closings and Consistent Borrower Experience

As broker use expanded, UWM saw consistent gains in closing speed and predictability. Remote closings removed the scheduling bottlenecks that traditionally slowed loan completion. Borrowers could sign from home. Brokers spent less time coordinating logistics. And closings stayed on track, even when circumstances changed late in the process. Adoption was especially strong in California. After the state recognized out-of-state RON transactions and enabled digital recording through a disinterested custodian, brokers began using remote closings more regularly. Today, more than 20% of UWM’s Proof-powered closings originate from California. Wilner captured the benefit clearly: “Our volume on Proof keeps increasing because it consistently makes closings easier for everyone involved.”

Flexibility Where It Matters

UWM now offers a closing workflow that meets borrower expectations without adding operational overhead. Remote closings are available when they make the process faster or more convenient. Brokers decide when to use them. Borrowers complete signing in a single sitting, from anywhere. The experience is consistent and predictable across loan types and regions.

UWM’s model shows that modernizing closings is not about replacing the in-person process - it’s about providing flexibility where it matters.
