What to Expect When Closing Online with Proof (formerly Notarize)

An online closing looks unfamiliar to a buyer right up until it starts, and then it takes about as long as the version that needed a conference room. Almost all the friction you hear about comes from clients not knowing what happens next.
In 30 minutes we will walk a full closing end to end, from the buyer's screen and from yours. The session covers:
- A remote online closing follows the same legal sequence as an in-person closing, with identity verification moved ahead of the signing instead of performed at the table.
- Buyers and sellers need no software installation, only a government-issued ID, a device with a camera, and an internet connection.
- Which documents can be closed online is governed by state law and by lender requirements, so the eligible set varies by state and by loan type.
- The finished package includes the notarial certificate, the identity evidence, and the session recording, which is more documentation than a wet-signed closing produces.
- Preparing a client takes one conversation: confirm their legal name matches their ID exactly and that the device has a working camera.
